Creditworthiness

Creditworthiness of a debtor (government or company).

Creditworthiness is assessed by rating agencies (S&P, Moody’s, Fitch) on scales from AAA to D. Lower creditworthiness means higher probability of default – and therefore higher coupons. Investors have to weigh up the return premium and risk.
