Bitcoin and trading are pure personal responsibility and are therefore among the current favorite topics of this blog. To further advance both and make them more secure, there has been a lot of new hardware in recent weeks and months. From a new hardware wallet to a large monitor and a powerful mini PC – I present the new acquisitions.
A hardware wallet with a focus on security and open source
Until now, I have stored my investments in cryptocurrencies on a Ledger Nano X and kept them securely in my own custody. As I delved deeper into the Bitcoin rabbit hole and realized that altcoins don’t solve any new problems and can be pretty ugly when it comes to taxes, I decided to save exclusively in Bitcoin in addition to my equity investments. I got myself a new hardware wallet for precisely this purpose: the BitBox02 from Switzerland*.
It is a small USB stick that stands out from other providers thanks to its security, user-friendliness and, above all, the use of open source software. The latter makes the source code public, which means it can be viewed and checked by everyone. Although I can’t read any code, there are some bitcoiners out there who have an interest in identifying any security vulnerabilities at an early stage and fixing them as quickly as possible, which can significantly increase integrity and reliability.
In addition, the BitBox02 can communicate with its own full node so that it is not dependent on third-party nodes that could potentially record all activities or even manipulate transactions. The data always remains in its own possession. Above all, however, the BitBox02* can be further secured with an additional passphrase and thus a 25th word, so to speak. It serves as an additional layer of security on top of the existing seed phrase. If someone else comes into possession of the 24th word, they will still not be able to access their own wallet as they do not know the passphrase, which is used to derive a completely new wallet. Only those who know both factors are granted access.
A passphrase as the 25th word
This also makes sense if you are ever forced to reveal your passphrase. Then you simply name another passphrase whose wallet you have previously filled with a few sats or you only reveal your 24 words to the attacker, where there are also only a few sats. Nobody will ever be able to find out how many and which passphrases you have in use. Although BitBox02* focuses on security and open source, it is still very user-friendly. The intuitive user interface and easy-to-understand instructions make it easy to use, even for less tech-savvy users.
Especially with larger Bitcoin holdings and rising prices, security is the most important criterion for safekeeping. “Better safe than sorry!” The BitBox02 is also available on Amazon*, but at over 180 euros it costs significantly more there than directly from the manufacturer. At BitBox itself, the Bitcoin-only version of the hardware wallet is available from around 150 euros*. I always recommend buying directly from the manufacturer to ensure that the product has not been tampered with.

Geekom GT1 Mega Mini AI PC
I used to do my daily trading on an older Dell Optiplex. In the last few months, however, it started to sweat more and more when the order flow had to be read or lagged behind when the market was driven faster by news. A new system with more powerful hardware was needed.
I opted for the Geekom GT1 Mega Mini AI PC. With dimensions of 135 x 132 x 46.9 mm, it is surprisingly compact and looks a lot like the Mac mini from Apple. 42-inch display with OLED technology
To get a better overview of what’s happening in the futures trading market, I bought a new monitor. The KTC G42P5 has a screen diagonal of an impressive 42 inches and is already based on OLED technology, which ensures rich colors and high contrasts. The display works with high-resolution 3,840 x 2,160 pixels and achieves a refresh rate of up to 138 Hz. The color space coverage of the LG panel is specified as 133% for the sRGB color space, and 99% for DCI-P3. The color processing is 10-bit.
