Briefly introduced: The Xiaomi Smart Band 9

The Xiaomi Smart Band 9 costs less than 40 euros*, but offers a wide range of functions that go far beyond the classic activities for recording your own sporting activities or health data and in some cases even offer the range of functions of a more expensive smartwatch. The fitness tracker supports a total of 150 sports modes and, thanks to various sensors, allows improved measurement of heart rate or blood oxygen saturation and makes comprehensive sleep monitoring possible. A wide variety of sports and activities are covered, from running, swimming, cycling and yoga to extreme sports.

The fitness tracker features a 1.62-inch AMOLED panel with a native resolution of 192 x 490 pixels, which can reach peak brightness levels of up to 1,200 nits to ensure that it remains easy to read even in intense sunlight. At the same time, the band remains quite compact and lightweight. The hardware unit is not quite 11 mm high and weighs 15.8 g. The Xiaomi Smart Band 9 can either be worn on the arm or attached to a sports shoe using a separately available clip. Wearing it as a necklace is also theoretically possible.

The necessary accessories cost between 10 and 30 euros. However, there are also a variety of third-party wristbands* that make customization possible and which we would also recommend, as the standard TPU wristband quickly makes the skin sweat on hot summer days, which feels very uncomfortable.

Although the Xiaomi Smart Band 9 works largely autonomously, a smartphone with an Android or iOS operating system is required for the full range of functions. Steps are automatically counted in the background, pulse and blood oxygen levels and breathing rate are regularly monitored, stress levels are continuously recorded and sleep is monitored. The data can then be viewed directly on the device with a swipe gesture across the touchscreen, but the full statistics are only available via the Mi Fitness app on the smartphone. The band even conveniently sends push notifications from apps such as WhatsApp, Telegram, YouTube or Discord to the wrist and informs you of incoming calls.

However, these can only be rejected and not accepted, as no speakers or microphones are integrated. This requires a real smartwatch. The same applies to the display of photos and videos, sometimes even emoticons, which are not shown correctly on the small display.

Data recognition works very well in everyday life. However, sleep monitoring could be more precise, as waking phases are not always reliably detected, but leisurely media consumption from the sofa is sometimes interpreted as a nap. All in all, the Xiaomi Smart Band 9* is an affordable gadget for anyone who wants to get a bit more active!
